In BEREZINA, I decided to revisit and expand upon the concepts behind ENDO.
This time, instead of a duo, the piece will be performed by a team of dancers. We will expand upon, offer variations, and exceed the initial concept. The challenge will be to convey the states of being from ENDO, and the references taken from the history of dance and the performing arts. Although the project is based on memory and heritage, that does not signify a return to traditional values. Rather, it is about seeing what resonates, as part of a dialogue with what has gone before, and what is still to come.

This project will involve performers who have never touched on my work. I think that this new approach will take us straight to the quick of dance, bringing it to life, and losing oneself within it to find presence on stage. The body at the centre of danced performance, at once media, instrument, and subject, nourishing this presence, which has both political and aesthetic value.

Increasing the number of dancers on stage will extend and expand the piece. It is also a way of signaling the fact that we always work and rehearse the same thing. And to that end, I will quote the choreographer Alain Buffard, who also chose to develop the concepts behind his solo, Good Boy, for a four-dancer team initially, and then for a bigger group in Mauvais Genre: “I could also say that an artist always performs the same piece. Here, I acknowledge and acclaim this slow and gentle work of refining, starting again, revising, and afterthoughts that all may see as an obsession, but without standing in the way of modifications and variations.”
